A Checklist For Finding a Doctor For
Your Condition
Once an injury occurs,
it is imperative that the victims obtain the appropriate medical care in a
timely fashion. Some basic rules of thumb to follow in order to locate the
appropriate medical care are as follows:
A.. PRELIMINARY
STEPS:
1. Ask friends, relatives and acquaintances if a specialist
who cares for these types of injuries has treated them. 2. Ask your family
physician to recommend a specialist. 3. Ask your attorney if he/she has heard
any feedback regarding a doctor's qualifications. 4. Look through the
telephone book, internet and other sources of information to acquire
names.
B. THE APPOINTMENT (Don't be afraid to ask
questions):
1. Ask the doctor how many patients he/she has treated with
your condition. 2. If surgery is an option, ask how many operations the
doctor has performed of this type. 3. Ask the doctor if he/she is Board
Certified in this field of specialty. 4. Ask if the doctor will actually be
performing the procedure or if there is a chance a less experienced doctor in
the office may be called in to perform the procedure. 5. Find out what
professional organizations the doctor is a member.
C. GO FOR A SECOND
OPINION:
1. If surgery is an option, always seek a second opinion.
